2022, oil pastel images 7,6,5,4 were made during overseas research trips where I was investigating (Image 4,5) Singapore Art Museum Residency. The two images relate to water in the pool at the Four seasons, in particular, my interest was to create ephemerality and stillness within the transparency of contained water. (Images 6,7) are from the indoor/outdoor pool at the Le Meridien Ho Ch iMin City. The weather intermittently would change from a hot humid climate to torrential downpours. This drop in temperature and how the light at 5 pm alters made the pool a contested subject to draw, so I have presented image 7 as a body of water that mutates between stillness, depth, turbulence and a sense of abstraction, I particularly like the turbulence that a body of contained water alters at such a fast rate, it responds to how my mind and state of being sitting one place can be without thought be transported to another world.
